The experimental base of the research was the Spiritual and Educational Centre in the name of Vera, Nadezhda, Lyubov and their mother Sophia as a structural unit of the Belgorod State Institute of Arts and Culture. As a result of the study, the authors conclude that, despite the fact that modern youth do not have clear life guidelines, they are prone to Western ideas of consumer attitudes toward existence. They also highlight health, family and education as the main values in life, and they value in people, first of all, responsiveness, kindness, and intellect. In order to popularize the spiritual and moral qualities of youth, we have developed the program "We are one." The purpose of the program is the actualization, support and implementation of educational processes related to effective work in the youth environment, the formation of individuals and citizens capable of realizing themselves within the region, Russia and on a global scale; promotion of humanitarian knowledge and culture-forming technologies in the regional cultural and educational space of the Belgorod region, Russia and abroad. The authors of the paper have developed and substantiated in the process of experimental work approaches and recommendations that contribute to increasing the effectiveness of spiritual and moral education of students. These materials can be used in the process of organizing pedagogic activities in educational institutions.   &nbsp

Silica nanoparticles (SNPs) doped by hexanuclear molybdenum cluster complexes [{Mo₆X₈}L₆]n (X = Cl, Br, or I; L = various inorganic or organic ligands) have been recently suggested as materials with a high potential for biomedical applications due to both the outstanding photoluminescent properties and the ability to efficiently generate singlet oxygen upon photoirradiation. However, no studies were undertaken so far to prove this concept. Therefore, here we examined the potential of photoluminescent SNPs doped by {Mo₆I₈}⁴⁺ for such applications as bioimaging and photodynamic therapy using human epidermoid larynx carcinoma (Hep-2) cell line as a model. Our results demonstrated both: (i) significant luminescence from cells with internalised molybdenum cluster doped SNPs combined with the low cytotoxicity of particles in the darkness and (ii) significant cytotoxicity of the particles upon photoirradiation. Thus, this research provides strong experimental evidence for high potential of molybdenum cluster doped materials in such biomedical applications as optical bioimaging, biolabeling and photodynamic therapy

Vocal group signatures in the goitred gazelle Gazella subgutturosa

Abstract The potential for vocal modification in mammals has recently been of great interest. This study focuses on the potential for vocal matching in juvenile and adolescent goitred gazelles Gazella subgutturosa that were group housed as part of an animal management programme. Two groups of animals (16 and 19 unrelated individuals, respectively) were recorded at two different ages, juvenile and adolescent, regarding 20-25 calls per individual per age; each group was evaluated in a separate year. Vocal similarity of group members compared to nonmembers was prominent in both ages, but higher in juveniles. Individual identity was prominent in both ages and higher in adolescents. The more prominent vocal indicators of group membership in juveniles could be related to their higher social dependence compared to adolescents. The more individualized calls of adolescents could be a mechanistic consequence of more stable growth at older age. Our results suggest vocal plasticity of goitred gazelles under social influences. These data add to recent evidence about domestic goat kids Capra hircus, suggesting that vocalizations of species that are not capable of imitation are more flexible than previously thought

Luminescent silica mesoparticles for protein transduction

Unlike silica nanoparticles, the potential of silica mesoparticles (SMPs) (i.e. particles of submicron size) for biological applications in particular the in vitro (let alone in vivo) cellular delivery of biological cargo has so far not been sufficiently studied. Here we examine the potential of luminescent (namely, octahedral molybdenum cluster doped) SMPs synthesised by a simple one-pot reaction for the labelling of cells and for protein transduction into larynx carcinoma (Hep-2) cells using GFP as a model protein. Our data demonstrates that the SMPs internalise into the cells within half an hour. This results in cells that detectably luminesce via conventional methods. In addition, the particles are non-toxic both in darkness and upon photo-irradiation. The SMPs were modified to allow their functionalisation by a protein, which then delivered the protein (GFP) efficiently into the cells. Thus, the luminescent SMPs offer a cheap and trackable alternative to existing materials for cellular internalisation of proteins, such as the HIV TAT protein and commercial protein delivery agents (e.g. Pierce™)

Dynamic Separation of Chaotic Signals in the Presence of Noise

The problem of separation of an observed sum of chaotic signals into the individual components in the presence of noise on the path to the observer is considered. A noise threshold is found above which high-quality separation is impossible. Below the threshold, each signal is recovered with any prescribed accuracy. This effect is shown to be associated with the information content of the chaotic signals and a theoretical estimate is given for the threshold.Comment: PDF, 12 pages, 6 figures, submitted to Phys. Cancer Stem Cells: Emergent Nature of Tumor Emergency

A functional analysis of 167 genes overexpressed in Krebs-2 tumor initiating cells was performed. In the first part of the study, the genes were analyzed for their belonging to one or more of the three groups, which represent the three major phenotypic manifestation of malignancy of cancer cells, namely (1) proliferative self-sufficiency, (2) invasive growth and metastasis, and (3) multiple drug resistance. 96 genes out of 167 were identified as possible contributors to at least one of these fundamental properties. It was also found that substantial part of these genes are also known as genes responsible for formation and/or maintenance of the stemness of normal pluri-/multipotent stem cells. These results suggest that the malignancy is simply the ability to maintain the stem cell specific genes expression profile, and, as a consequence, the stemness itself regardless of the controlling effect of stem niches. In the second part of the study, three stress factors combined into the single concept of “generalized cellular stress,” which are assumed to activate the expression of these genes, were defined. In addition, possible mechanisms for such activation were identified. The data obtained suggest the existence of a mechanism for the de novo formation of a pluripotent/stem phenotype in the subpopulation of “committed” tumor cells

    No full text
The article considers the contents of categories of «economic growth» and «economic development», defines their interrelation and differences. The article proves that in conditions of the critical situation which has developed in Ukraine today, the problem of creation of the model of stable economic growth, solving of which would become the basis for a qualitatively new type of economic development, has become topical. A qualitative characterization of economy of innovative type, the principles for its fully efficient functioning have been provided. An analysis of both the effective system and the level of financing of innovation activity in Ukraine that need both qualitative and quantitative changes, introduction of the State and the non-State financial methods directed towards intensification of innovation activity, was carried out. The necessity of transition to an economy of innovative type has been substantiated, that would not only allow to deduce the economy of Ukraine from crisis, but also to accelerate paces of economic growth to provide a stable social-economic development of society in the future
